31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
This will be the final Bible study on Romans 8. I hope you all have gotten as much out of it as I have. Let's jump right in shall we.
Verse Thirty-one gives us the most wonderful promise ever. "If God is for us, then who can be against us?" Think about it. We have on our side the ultimate being. The One who threads the very fabric of reality. And, since He is on our side, then who can hope to conquer us? No one, that's who.
Thirty-two tells us something important. If God wouldn't even keep His Son, a piece of Himself, from us, then what won't He give us. Read these following words carefully. God will NEVER withold anything from you unless it will make your life worse. He will give you anything that makes you better. This is not neccesarily what the world considers good. God may never hand you a million dollars, but He will give you the courage to tell people about Him and help save souls.
Thirty-three says that no one can accuse us. This is because God has given us right standing with Himself, or made us his righteousness. We become this way because of our faith in Christ. And when we are saved, our sins are abolished. They no longer exist in God's eyes. And no sins equals no condemnation. Nothing to be accused of.
Thirty-four confirms the previous verse. Only it goes further. Not only is there nothing left to condemn us for, but Christ himself pleads with the father for us day and night. From this verse I would assume that satan tries to condemn us, but Christ reminds him that the sacrifice on the cross covered all of our sins.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
Thirty-five through thirty-seven answer an essential question for christians who are persecuted. If trouble comes our way, if we are dirt poor, if we are sick, does it mean Christ loves us any less? NO. No matter what, Christ still died for us and loves us the same. As thirty-six says, "we are slaughtered for the sake of the shepherd. In another place, the Bible tells us to expect trouble if we follow Christ. Because this world works one way and Christ works another. The two ways are in direct conflict. So trouble will inevitably come to believers.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
These last two verse explain just how much we are loved. Nothing in creation can separate us from God's love. The angels can't, demons can't, neither life or death can, nothing. God loves us more than anything. Keep that in mind the next time doubt tries to creep into your mind. Say it out loud. Speak it into reality. When you use the scriptures as a sword, the forces of hell can NOT stand up against you and God.
