17...and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Now for the last piece of armor. And the only offensive one, if you notice. All of the others are purely for defense against the forces of satan. But this piece is where we take it a step further. This is also the piece that satan fears the most, in my opinion.
There is reason for this belief of mine. The Word of God is what God inspired people to write in the Bible. And when we memorize that Word, commiting it to memory, then we can do serious damage to satan and his strongholds. And it is hard for satan to defeat you if you are using the most powerful weapon in the universe.
Even satan knows that there is no weapon more potent than the word of God. Check out the gospels. When satan and Jesus battled in the desert after Jesus' baptism, they used only the word of God. Imagine it. Two of the most powerful spiritual forces in existence going head to head.
They didn't choose nuclear weapons, swords, or machine guns. They didn't use chemical or atomic warfare. They simply spoke the scriptures. Satan tried to twist it to suit his purposes, but Christ won in the end because he knew the true spirit of the scriptures. And when satan comes against us, we can beat him back too, if we use the word of God.
So, to wrap up this mini-series; Keep your waist girded with the truth of love, keep your bodies covered with the righteousness of God, keep your feet covered with the readiness to explain our christian hope (gently of course), keep faith in God's promises as your shield, keep your mind covered with the knowledge that you have been saved, and keep your sword sharp by commiting the Word of God to memory.
Defend yourselves out there in this spiritual war zone. G'nite.
