17 Put on salvation as your helmet
Okay, we're almost done with the armor of God but there are two essential pieces left. And we'll talk about the helmet of salvation today. As you know, I believe that each piece of the armor is specifically labeled for a reason and it is no different with this piece.
I believe that this piece applies specifically to new Christians, but it also can apply to veteran Christians. When you are going through a hard time or if you have just been recently saved, satan will try to convince you that you are not really saved. This is one of the worst lies that satan has and it can do the most damage if believed.
For, if satan can convince someone that they are not saved, then they won't do what God wants. These thoughts might sound familiar to you. "Nothing really happened at that altar call", "God could never love somone like me", "I've done too much to be forgiven", etc... Beware if these thoughts start to penetrate your mind.
There are verses that you can use to resist these lies. "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature." "Believe in your heart that Christ was the son of God, and confess with your mouth that God raised him from the dead and you will be saved."
If you believe that, then you are saved.
Also, when you give into sin, whether you've been a christian for years or a day, satan will try to convince you that there is no way you can be forgiven. However, satan is the father of lies. NOTHING he says is the truth. So, "humble yourself before God. Resist the devil and he will flee. (James 4:6-7)"
Also, when you sin, satan will try and keep you down by piling on guilt. He'll tell you that God can't forgive the sin you did. But don't believe it. He is the father of lies and there is no truth in him.
So when you go about your day, keep your mind guarded. Keep that helmet on.
