13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
Time for todays verses. These will be broken down into three topics.
First, verse thirteen. "Put on every piece of God's armor so that you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will be standing firm." I think we can all agree that this world is in a very evil time and place. So we need to make sure that we have all of the armor every day. The attacks of the enemy come several times a day, every day. And the enemy is smart and wily. He, although almost powerless compared to our God, is very clever and therefore dangerous. So we must be on our gaurds at all times.
Secondly, the first part of verse 14. "Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth..." Now, when you think of the armor of God, picture a knight in your head. Body completely covered. Now take away everything except this. The waist, entire pelvic area and the thighs are now covered. This is the picture that comes to mind for me when I think of the belt of truth. And there's a reason it's called the belt of truth, not the shoes or helmet or shield. The reason is this. Look around at the world and what do you see? The majority of the lies around us have to do with sex. As does much of the advertising and selling of stuff.
Just think about it. The media, superstars, musicians, they all tell us women have to look a certain way. If you want to sell something, the proven best way is to have a hot women endorsing it. And just look at the clothes that even young girls are wearing. It's enough to make me (and I hope you) sick, literally.
And, since sex produces the majority of the lies in the world, it goes to reason that we need to protect the area of our bodies that have to do with sex, which is the pelvic area. This is why it's called the belt of truth. And when satan attacks with these lies, just keep helpful verses in mind and then speak them into existence. Verse like, "a man who looks at a women with lust is guilty of adultery with her in his heart", "I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look at a woman with lust", "If God is for us then who can be against us". Speak these verse when satan comes against you so that you can be standing firm.
Part three. "And the body armor of God's righteousness." Okay, so we've got the waist and upper legs covered. Now for the torso. When you picture this piece, picture complete coverage of the chest, abdomen, back, arms, and hands. And yes, there is a reason for this being called the body armor. It intertwines with faith. Since we are made God's righteousness because of our faith, then we can not have our armor intact without both of them. But I'm not getting off track onto the shield here, just roll with me if you would.
Our torso is where most of the doing go on with our bodies. We twist our torso to change direction. We move things with our hands. And we can not wage war without our arms. The torso also houses most of the vital parts of our human bodies. The stomach, liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, ribs. So it's pretty important to keep this part covered. And it's most important to remember that, although believing is how we have faith and that makes us righteousness, if we are acting outside of God's will then are armor is diminished. Weakened. Pretty much useless. We must stay inside of God's will as much as possible for our armor to effectively protect us.
Now you might be saying, "I always thought it was called the breastplate. What's this about it being body armor?" Well that's an excellent question, even if you didn't ask and I made it up entirely. lol. The point is, it protects more than just your immediate chest and abdomen. It also protects your arms and hands. And for good reason. Faith makes us righteousness. However, "Faith without works is dead." It's not enough to just believe. Sure, if you believe in Christ as your savior and the risen son of God, you will receive salvation. But if you want to work God's will in your life, become the ultimate that God has for you, then you have to put that faith into action. Do good works. Help people. Look for opportunities to serve, and heres the part that will get ya, look for opportunitites that wont give you any recognition.<----- I'll go more into that later, but if you want to know now then send me a message.
So, to surmise my points, keep all of the armor on at all times because you never know where or when an attack might come. Keep your entire pelvic area protected from the worlds lies. And lastly, keep your upper body protected by having faith and working it in your life.
May God bless and keep you always, AMEN.
